Credit guide

What a credit guide covers

A credit guide is a document Australian credit licensees and their credit representatives give consumers before providing credit assistance. It explains who is authorised to help you, how they are paid, and how you can raise a concern.

What this page is for

This page is general information about credit guides. It is not itself a credit guide for any particular broker, and it is not credit assistance. The Broker Room provides property information, calculators and an enquiry pathway. Personalised credit assistance is provided separately by an appropriately authorised mortgage broker.

Before credit assistance is provided

If you submit an enquiry and a mortgage broker contacts you about credit assistance, that broker or their licensee will give you their credit guide and relevant licence details before providing credit assistance. Keep that document. It identifies who is authorised to help you and how fees and commissions are handled for that relationship.

Fees and commissions in general

Mortgage brokers are commonly paid by lenders through commissions and may also charge fees in some cases. The credit guide and later disclosure from the broker who assists you explain what applies to your situation. This website does not quote brokerage fees or recommend credit products.

If you have a concern

For questions about an enquiry sent through this website, use the contact form or email hello@thebrokerroom.com.au. Privacy concerns are covered on the privacy page. Concerns about credit assistance you received should be raised with the broker or licensee named in the credit guide they gave you. See also how to raise a concern.
